Professional Development Models
My love for curriculum resulted in a big body of work for St John Bosco School. The Curriculum Landscape is the result of eight years of work by our management team https://sites.google.com/sjb.school.nz/sjb-curriculum/home
Want to get more out of the teaching of science, technology, social studies, art, history? This Inquiry Learning PLD Model was developed to support staff in teaching the curriculum through a solid inquiry model.
Inspired by Lane Clark, professional readings on information literacy, metacognition and research skills, this model will take your “topic studies” to a new level.
The reflective discipline of Teaching as Inquiry is known to revolutionise teaching practice, school culture and student achievement. Having a clear pathway to follow is essential.
This model walks staff and management through the process of making impactful change. Supported by templates and resources, it can transform the way a school builds a sustaining and collective community of change.
This Digital Technology Roadmap provides a sequenced resource hubs for teachers to follow. It even includes a handy Reflection tool to ascertain exactly which level you’re at and then how to expand your ability to incorporate digital technology in the classroom.
This resource is excellent for individual teachers or as a whole school initiative.
Get in touch if you are interested in talking through any of these models.
Presentations
St John Bosco is showcased on a TKI Spotlight, delving into Learner Agency and our journey, up to 2020, in developing our digital technology pedagogy. Find out more >>>
We were also featured on the Hero blog, where Felicity Goodfellow visited to see Learner Agency in action and how we engage learners. Find out more >>>
In 2017, we did a presentation to ULearn on learner agency and our digital education approach. The outcomes in our kura was: reduced planning by about 30%, increased learner agency aptitudes, and we both got out of the way of our learners while simultaneously having time and space for more direct teaching.
In 2020, I presented to the Ministry of Education staff across the lower north island on the Digital Technology Curriculum: how it is structured and what it looks like, in reality, in the classroom. As a result of this presentation, I also constructed a Digital Roadmap (links at the top of this page).
In 2019, I was contracted to present for Gifted Aotearoa as part of the Waka Tiwai Regional Network. I focused on digital strategies that can be used to extend gifted learners in literacy. Open these slides to find out more about these strategies.
